MI-EIS ‘Managing Implementation of Enterprise Information Systems’ is a 2 year project supported by the European Union Asia-Link Programme, running from September 2005 to 2007.
Mi-EIS aims to develop information technology professionals educated in the innovative and multidisciplinary approaches to manage enterprise information systems implementation. Information systems are increasingly taking a higher profile in the operations of any organisation, requiring people who can blend the integration skills of information technology, business studies and technology management. Valuable resources, time and financial, are spent trying to narrow this gap. Currently there are no systematic education programmes specialising in this field and the purpose of Mi-EIS is to initiate an international curriculum to meet this human capability need.
The international curriculum is based on the European Credit Transfer System, and has flexibility to be adapted into the education systems in the partner countries of UK, Netherlands and China. For eight core subjects, the teaching programmes and materials are developed to be used by the three partners: Cranfield University in the UK; Twente University in the Netherlands; and, Hunan University in China.
The curriculum design draws on extensive research on
industrial cases in enterprise information systems implementation projects in
Europe and China.
In this collaboration, the partners learn from each others
teaching methods. Good teaching methods like student participative teaching,
industrial application projects and systemic research are incorporated in the
teaching material.
The curriculum is available in the public domain and the
partners are happy to assist other universities to set up similar programmes.
